Best Time to Visit
Da Nang, located in central Vietnam, has a tropical coastal climate with warm temperatures year round. This varies significantly from cities such as Hanoi in the north, which experiences very cold winters and hot summers as well as Ho Chi Minh City in the South where they experience hot temperatures year round.

The tropical climate in central Vietnam makes Da Nang a popular destination almost year round.
It might surprise some people that Da Nang has just two distinct seasons, dry season and wet season (monsoon). This is very different from the Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter that I’m used to, coming from Australia.
I would recommend planning your visit during the dry season for the best experience. I have visited central Vietnam during the rainy season and while I was still able to make the most of my time, I did have to adjust my itinerary for a couple of days due to heavy rainfall and flash flooding due from a nearby typhoon.
I’ve gone into more detail on what to expect during each season below.
Dry Season (February to August)
The best and most popular time to visit Da Nang is during the dry season, when the weather is warm and less likely to rain. This weather is best for enjoying the beaches and exploring the city.
The hottest months are June/July with an average high of 35 degrees and low of 26 degrees.
Rainy Season (September to January)
The rainy season occurs from September to January, where you can expect heavier rainfall and occasional storms. There are typically fewer crowds during the rain season but the poor weather can limit activities and sightseeing.
January is the coolest month of the year with an average high of 25 degrees and low of 19 degrees.
Best Months for Beaches
March to August offers the best beach weather in Da Nang, sunny days and warm temperatures. June to August are the hottest months, with average temperatures in the mid-thirties, so it’s best to visit the beach in the morning or late afternoon to avoid the strongest sun.
Getting There
Da Nang’s central location makes it a perfect base for your trip to Vietnam and it’s easy to get there.
Flying to Da Nang
You can fly into Da Nang International Airport (DAD), while some countries offer direct flights to Da Nang, some will require a brief layover. Domestic connections are very convenient to and from Da Nang Airport, with frequent flights to cities such as Hanoi, Nha Trang, Ho Chi Minh City, or Phu Quoc.
Travelling by Train
You can also arrive at Da Nang via train into Da Nang Railway Station. It’s a popular way to travel the scenic route from Hue to Da Nang. Da Nang is also roughly the halfway point on the train between Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi.
Travelling by Bus
If you’re travelling on a budget, it’s also possible to travel by bus from other Vietnamese cities or from Laos.
Private Transfers
If you’re travelling from nearby cities such as Hue or Hoi An, a private car transfer can be a convenient option. If travelling from Hoi An, due to the short distance, you can also use Grab.
I’d recommend using 12Go Asia for booking buses and trains in Vietnam.
Getting Around
Using Grab in Da Nang
Grab is the easiest and most convenient way to get around Da Nang. It’s the most popular ride sharing app in Vietnam and works the same way as Uber. You can choose between a motorbike or a car, motorbikes are a great option for short distances, especially if you’re travelling solo and are often quicker and cheaper than cars.
Renting a Scooter
Scooters are popular in Da Nang and can be a convenient way to explore. However, traffic is chaotic so you should be a very confident rider. There are also strict rules around international licensing, so I’d encourage you to do additional research relevant to the license you hold and ensure you hold adequate travel insurance cover.
Walking Around My Khe Beach
My favourite way to get around Da Nang is by walking, especially if you’re staying in the My Khe Beach area where you can easily walk between your accommodation, beaches and local cafes and restaurants.
Unlike many other cities in Vietnam, Da Nang has plenty of pedestrian paths, including along the length of My Khe Beach. I love that you can walk for kilometres without having to cross a road and contend with busy traffic.
Airport Transfers
If you’re flying into Da Nang International Airport, a convenient and stress free way to get into the city and to your hotel is to book a private transfer.
A private transfer guarantees that you will have a driver waiting for you on arrival and you know exactly how much it will cost.
To avoid potential issues with unofficial taxis, I’d recommend booking a private transfer, or using Grab.
Book a private transfer via Klook.
Budget Guide
Da Nang is one of the most affordable destinations in Vietnam, offering exceptional value from boutique hotels to luxury resorts with relatively low prices compared to many other beach destinations in Asia.
Food and transport are also very affordable, making Da Nang a great option for budget travellers, couples, families and digital nomads.

Essential Da Nang Travel Tips
Is Da Nang Safe?
Da Nang is considered a safe city with low crime rates.
I have travelled to Da Nang a few times, including twice as a solo traveller and I’ve never felt unsafe, even walking around the My Khe Beach area alone at night.
However, I’d always encourage you to take the usual safety precautions and remain alert and aware of your surroundings and personal belongings.
Do You Need Cash?
I would strongly recommend carrying cash while visiting Da Nang, the local currency is Vietnamese Dong. ATMs are easy to find around Da Nang.
While many larger restaurants and stores will accept cards, street food and market stalls will be cash only.
Best Vietnam eSIM for Da Nang
The easiest way to stay connected during your trip to Vietnam is with an eSIM. You can easily set up an eSIM before you leave home, allowing you to be connected from the moment you land. This is especially helpful at the airport if you’re waiting in a long queue at immigration or for ordering a Grab to your hotel.
I’ve written a guide to the best eSIM for Vietnam, including detailed set up instructions to help you get set up.
Can You Drink Tap Water?
No, you should not drink tap water in Da Nang. You should stick to bottled or filtered water. To avoid single use plastics, many hotels will provide a water dispenser to fill your own bottle.
